Introducing Mam BA. Her undeniably superb fantasy digital illustration, concept art, and girl drawings feature some fantastic styles which we couldn’t wait to feature. Her take on character design can be fundamentally broken down as minimal, functional, and guaranteed to stand the test of time. We have been following her work for a while, and it is a pleasure to share it with you.

Based in Seoul, South Korea, Mam Ba has acquired a massive cult following for her gorgeous character creations, and it’s easy to see why. Her works have been featured by filmmakers, game developers, and advertisers, and since she works freelance, she has perfected cosplay, sci-fi, fantasy digital illustration, and concept art. Her girly drawings feature muted colors and intricate patterns, but it’s the realism that she captures that makes them stand out.

She is exceptionally experimental and open-minded, a fact that also reflects in her work. Incorporated in her works are her favorite elements girls, emotional harmony, and rational strategy. Even in her dystopian works, she exerts more energy into creativity. Using some of her favorite tools like Photoshop, Premiere, Flash, Audition, Maya, Illustrator, etc., her efforts shine through.

When she’s not drawing, Mam BA is quite laid back, but that’s just more reason to follow her on her socials. We adore her work; we hope you do too.

ARTIST INTERVIEW:

What city, state and country do you currently live in?

South Korea. I live in Gyeonggi-do, Korea.

What are your main art applications? *

photoshop

What other media or applications do you use?

The only program to draw is photoshop.

What's your favorite reference material?

Magazines, comics, books, websites, etc... I see a lot of things. Fashion, architectural style. Classical art, contemporary art. If it's beautiful, check it out. https://www.pinterest.co.kr/ https://www.artstation.com/ . I do google, but I usually see a lot of images on these sites.

Are there any artistic weaknesses you are actively working on for improvement?

I try not to fall into mannerism. Even if it is not popular with the public, I always draw it if it is a picture for my development. As I focus on the character concept, I am weak in illustrations. I'm thinking about drawing a character that fits the background.

What made you want to be an artist?

Character concept designer is an attractive job. It's so fun to be able to create something you want. I feel that I am continuing this work because it is so much fun that others accept the worldview that only I have been thinking of as a painting.

And what do you like best to draw?

Characters, monsters, girls, future scenes, etc. I like to draw female characters. It's because it's so fun to change your character with makeup. The charm of Girl Crush is really the best.

What kind of artistic achievements do you think you will achieve in the next 5 to 10 years?

While developing a game with cute characters, I started to draw more and more realistic pictures. It is progressing a little slowly, but after 10 years, I wish I could become a person who can draw the image in my head as it is.

Who are your favorite concept artists or inspired illustrators?

Toraji. Jeff Simpson, Even Amundsen yang qi917 adrian smith Erak note

I have so many artists I like ㅠㅠ

Have you had any professional training? If so, what school or class did you attend? If not, what process did you use to get your artistic talent?

I went to art college. I majored in Fine Art. I have been to an academy for entrance exams to go to art college. After that, I worked and studied alone. As I received feedback from the company's bosses, my skills improved a lot.

What interesting personal information about yourself that you can share with your readers?

Although people probably aren't interested! I am the mother of a child. When I went to work, I worked on the housework, and after my child fell asleep, I always studied painting. It is very important not to get tired and to work hard!!!

What advice would you give to an ambitious artist like you? Have you learned anything from your journey experience?

I think it is steadfastness and humility. There are so many outstanding artists in the world, and if you are not humble about painting, you will lose your attitude of learning. If other people move forward when I'm in place, I'll end up falling behind.

The development of the media is really fast and if you don't go along with it, it will be cut off. I think we should have a mindset of continuing to work hard and keep learning with a humble mind.
